Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 04/27/2014

Iggy Azalea enters the chart with "The New Classic," Future lands with "Honest" and Pharrell's "G I R L" keeps him in the Top 5. This week, Iggy Azalea and Future enter the Billboard Top 200 albums chart with The New Classic and Honest, respectively. Meanwhile, Pharrell holds on to a Top 5 slot on the chart with his most recent album, G  I  R  L. Future's Honest Effort Lands At #2 Future's Honest landed in the #2 spot and sold 53,352 units in its first week. Honest earned a 3 out of 5 in its HipHopDX review. "While he doesn’t completely remedy the flaws that held back Pluto, 'Future Hendrix' has incrementally improved," HipHopDX says in its review. @Vice THUMP HEADS TO LIMA IN LATEST EPISODE OF SUB.CULTURE

THUMP heads to Lima in the latest installment from its Sub.culture series to explore the Peruvian resurgence of the digital cumbia musical movement. In the episode, THUMP meets the cast of DJs, producers, label managers, and promoters who are reinvigorating the historic sound.
With roots in Amazonian communities and a history that dates back to the earliest periods of slavery and colonization, the cumbia sound tells the story of an entire continent. “Just like Detroit has techno and Chicago has house, Lima has this new sound that’s growing,” says Deltatron, a central figure from the Peruvian label Terror Negro. “It’s a rhythm that unifies all of Latin America.”

Young producers mixing digital cumbia in their Lima-based studios are drawing from a dense history of Peruvian cumbia that dates back to the 1960s. THUMP met the man behind INFOPESA, the “emblematic Peruvian cumbia record label,” who took us beyond the resurgent digital sound to explore the movement's origins.

13th annual Meagan’s Walk: Creating a Circle of Hope to raise awareness, and generate support for, children and families affected by paediatric brain tumours. The five kilometre walk, presented by Colliers International, starts at Fort York and ends with participants forming a giant human hug around The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). To date, Meagan’s Walk has raised more than $3.1 million.

Aquadive brings back the 70's with an ORIGINAL

Imagine Ford releasing NOS 1978 Mustang convertibles or Chevy making 1968 Corvettes available again. That’s what Swiss watch manufacturers Aquadive has done for the watch world through their release of updated, original manufacture NOS Model 77 dive watches. The model was originally released in 1977 as the Aquadive Maritime. The 1970’s homage craze is in full swing, but few companies have brought the real deal back to life, like Aquadive. The NOS Model 77 is built out of an original 1970’s case, featuring a sunburst stainless steel finishing and PVD coating.  In the 1970's, AQUADIVE was one of very few companies that applied a layer of copper alloy to the case to make the PVD coating extremely durable. The watch is powered by an original vintage NOS Anton Schild movement Caliber 1902. These movements were stored for 50 years, disassembled, cleaned and lubricated for this limited edition production.
