Silver Screen Sirens: Colour, Cut and Styling Tips for the Holiday Season from Sassoon Salon Toronto
Sassoon’s Fall/Winter 2014 Collection, Optica, is a series of iconic looks that are the perfect expression of Sassoon technique, elevated with an editorial edge, for a camera-ready finish. Optica pays homage to the world of editorial imagery and the voluminous hair and textured styles reminiscent of times past.
Sassoon Toronto’s Creative Director, Lorraine McAndrew and Colour Director, John Beeson offer expert tips on the fall/winter trends to make clients stand out and look great all holiday season.
By channelling beauties of the fifties and sixties like Jean Seberg, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, Sassoon Salon offers modernized versions of the classic looks using precise methods of cutting and colour to highlight texture and face shape.
Hair Styling Tips from Sassoon Creative Director Lorraine McAndrew:
Holiday styling: Rather than spending precious holiday time with fussy up-dos and shiny hair accessories, a great haircut with beautiful and interesting colour is what will get attention at parties/events this season. For a beautiful updated retro look, choose a cut that is wearable throughout the day and can easily transition to an evening or party look with a quickly styled blow out, loose curl, or backcombing at the crown for height.
“This fall/winter collection works so well for the holiday season because it’s a throwback to a very glamourous time without all the work of hot rollers and hairspray,” says McAndrew. “I often use Sebastian Potion 9 to keep sleekness, hold the style, and combat frizz.”
-Start with a voluminizing mousse or texturizer before blow-drying. Hair that is too soft will fall flat.
-Buy a travel size hairspray (Sebastian Re-Shaper offers one) to keep in a holiday purse/clutch to touch-up hair throughout the night to hold styles and combat winter static.
Hair Colour Tips from Sassoon’s Colour Director John Beeson:
Holiday Colour Trends: Colours are monochromatic and multi-tonal this season (saying goodbye to the colourful hair slices and ombré of seasons past).
“Darker tones are carefully placed underneath lighter shades to give a three-dimensional effect while the lighter colours enhance the hair’s natural qualities of light reflection,” says John Beeson. “Sassoon’s colour and cut techniques optimize the effect of shadow and light to give hair a natural shine.”
-Since holiday parties can start in late November/beginning of December, Beeson reminds clients to book colour appointments early as they fill up quickly.-To achieve a polished, glossy finish, blow-dry the hair in a downward direction, and wrap the hair around the head shape. This will create a sleek, high-gloss shine with natural, effortless movement and bring out the tones in the hair.
