2016 is a very special year for Hennessy as it marks the next chapter in its Master Blender legacy. Hennessy’s current Master Blender, Yann Fillioux, will be passing the keys of the 250 year old cellar to his nephew, Renaud Fillioux de Gironde. Renaud Fillioux de Gironde is the eighth generation of the Fillioux family who will be writing a new chapter for the Hennessy saga. The arrival of a new generation marks a milestone for Hennessy. The unbroken dynasty dates back to the early 1800s, when James Hennessy chose Jean Fillioux as his Master Blender. Seven generations later, in the spirit of the Hennessy family, Hennessy welcomed Renaud Fillioux de Gironde and saluted Master Blender Yann Fillioux’s 50-year tenure at the Maison. It’s amazing to see that Yann Fillioux has honored the tradition shared by the Hennessy and Fillioux families for 250 years by perfecting the blend and respecting Hennessy’s heritage. History is being made again as the families witnessed the passing of the torch to Renaud Fillioux de Gironde, who will bring his own vision to Hennessy and ensure that the tradition is kept in the family for many generations.
Hennessy8 and Tools
Hennessy8 at La Sarrazine
While preparing to pass the legacy of Hennessy into the hands of Renaud Fillioux de Gironde, Yann Fillioux wanted to create one last perfect cognac, the Hennessy·8. Hennessy·8 pays tribute to the heritage to the line of cellar masters of the house. To create the perfect Hennessy that describes his lifework, the Hennessy·8 blend consists of eight carefully selected eaux-de-vie: seven selected by Yann Fillioux, and the eighth selected by Renaud de Gironde. The bottle is designed by internationally renowned artist, Arik Levy, a long time collaborator with Hennessy. Using oak staves from the cooperage of the house, Arik Levy has used buckwheat to create an object of 25 layers of wood, each symbolizing 10 years of history for the precious trunk. The crystal decanter is produced by Baccara, it consists of eight rings to represent the eight Master Blenders.
